Body Shop

Before start of production of every new model, Body Shop underwent further modernizations. The year 1977 was a highlight in history of this shop, when during preparations for start of assembly of the Polonez bodies, great changes – possible at that time – were made. Then, a very modern fully robotized “L” line was installed, which became the pride of the factory. The following ventures included installation of new welding lines for Lanos, Matiz and Nubira.

The latest investment was launch of production of a new generation vehicle - Chevrolet Aveo. One fully automated, robotized body welding line was installed here.
Thanks to rearrangements, approx. 17 000 m² of vacant space was obtained in the Body Shop, by relocation of production of the majority of small body elements, usually made on single small and middle size equipment, to FSO affiliates in Siedlce and Ciechanów. The welding lines, which remained at Body Shop, we also fundamentally modernized.

In 1997, the shop obtained also the most modern equipment for instant measurement of body dimensions of Carl Zeiss. In September 1999, the building situated between Body Shop and Press Shop was adapted and included in the Body Shop. On the area of 7.5 thousand m², on the level of 6 meters, technology work stations were installed, on which preassemblies for production of complete Chevrolet car bodies are prepared. A portion of the Shop area remains vacant, prepared for new projects.

The technology process is based on the skid conveyor system. Eventually, car bodies go to one of the two so-called body-in-white lines, where the missing elements are installed and finishing and inspection operations are performed. The present production capacity of the line is 60 jobs per hour.

The welded car bodies are then transferred by a conveyor to the next shop in the cycle: Paint Shop.
