Paint shop

This shop was built in 1996-1998. This facility is on the top world level, it meets the stringent standards of European Union in respect of protection of natural environment. The technology line was designed specially for FSO by the renowned German Eisenmann company. The FSO Paint Shop applies the latest technology of low-zinc phosphating of steel panels. The anti-corrosive coat is applied by electrodeposition with unleaded materials. Owing to such processes, a car body features a 10-year resistance from corrosion. For painting of car bodies, paints without heavy metals are used, as well as waterborne primer and waterborne base paints. Heat recovery systems have been applied in the painting process, and incinerators which reduce to the minimum the amount of hazardous substances’ emission to the atmosphere. The special ventilation system is installed, which filters air taken from the shop interior together with a small quantity of air from outside.

The new Paint Shop at the Żeran Plant features also economy of energy consumption. The ovens have perfect parameters, including a very low heat loss rate. So-called heat wheels are installed here, which heat up the air from the atmosphere by the warm air recovered from paint booths. This facility is divided into three ventilation zones with different requirements of air cleanness. The Paint Shop has the total usable area of 61 000 m². Two parallel paint lines, Eisenmann and Haden, are available, which provide the total production capacity of 60 painted car bodies per hour. The cost of the Paint Shop construction at the end of 1998 amounted at the total of nearly USD 200 million.
